Animals and their Humans
Exhibition
Golden Bay 2026
Animals weave themselves into our everyday lives in ways we often don't notice until years later.
Whether they have fur, feathers, wool or hooves, our animals become part of our families and part of our stories.
Animals and their Humans is a community photography exhibition celebrating those real, honset relationships across Golden Bay.
All connections big and small:
-
Your daughter brushing her pony
-
Dad herding the cows every day for decades
-
The kids chasing chickens across the paddock
-
Your Huntaway riding shotgun in the ute
-
Wee Charlie bottle-feeding an orphaned lamb
-
Your family running on the beach with the dogs
-
Any animal (yes, even the slightly chaotic ones)!
I will photograph 15 families, who will each have one of their photographs displayed at a community exhibition at The Dangerous Kitchen, Takaka from late September! Photographs will be for sale.
While we're together, we'll also capture your family as you are right now. Muddy boots, dog hair, laughter and all.
You don't need to pose or look at the camera. I'll simply spend time with you and your animals, photographing the genuine moments that unfold naturally.
15 families receive: valued at $450 each
-
A 1 hour Real Family Photography day-in-the-life session with your animals in Golden Bay
-
One 5x7" print OR $250 credit towards more photographs
-
Inclusion in the exhibition
Many families fall in love with far more than one photograph. You're welcome to purchase additional photographs, albums or wall art if you wish, but there's absolutely no obligation. Photographs start from $250 each with most families spending an average of $1000.
There is a $75 booking fee is required to participate in the exhibition.

Why? I remember playing with our cats with my Dad as a child. Here's one of my favourite photographs of us. I'm wearing PJ's made by my Mum. Both my dad and Ging are no longer with us, but their memories live on through our photographs. That's why I do what I do. One day these photographs won't just remind us what our animals looked like, they'll remind us who we were together.
